6 Signs You Need Septic Tank Pumping

April 15, 2023May 16, 2023 Anthony

Many households and commercial buildings use a septic system on their properties. This component does not require frequent maintenance like some other ones. So it is easy to forget about it quickly. But the septic tank is an important component. It holds and treats all water waste in a building. A lack of maintenance at the right time can result in serious problems. The type of problems that require expensive repairs or replacement. A top maintenance aspect for septic tanks is pumping. The system requires pumping from one to three years, depending on some factors. This post shares the common signs that a septic tank is due for pumping.

Septic Tank

Draining has become slow

Do you experience trouble flushing the toilet? Or is it taking more time for the sink and shower to drain water? These are among the first indications that the septic tank is getting full. You need to contact a septic tank contractor. Otherwise, the system becomes less effective the fuller it gets. The solids start to mix with the water waste. This clogs the pipes and slows down draining.

The home starts to smell like sewage

The foul odor can come from the toilet or drains. It is often a sign that the clogging is blocking the vent. This traps the gasses and causes a bad smell. These gasses are harmful because they contain nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide, and methane. You must contact a septic service professional at this stage.

Sewage pops back up when flushed

A sewage backup is a serious sign that the septic tank is due for maintenance. It shows that wastewater from the septic tank is overflowing into the pipes. From the pipes, sewage can overflow into your home at this stage. This can pose a serious health hazard for the household. It is essential that you contact a professional immediately if you notice sewage backup.

Lush green lawn

Do you notice the grass near your septic system suddenly looking lusher and greener than the rest? It might be time to call a plumber. The tank might be overflowing unto the lawn, supplying the surrounding grass with more manure than others.

The pipes make gurgling sounds

The gurgling sounds are caused by trapped air. When there are solids in the pipes, it prevents water from flowing smoothly, causing gurgling sounds. This is a symptom of a full septic tank but could also indicate other problems with the system. It is best to call a professional to determine and fix the fault.

Water in the yard

Do you notice standing water around the septic tank? This can be a sign of overflowing. It can also indicate that the tank or a pipe is leaking. Standing water around a septic tank is a serious health hazard. This wastewater can attract unfriendly bacteria and pests. It is important to call a septic repair service to have a look at the fault immediately.

Pumping your septic tank regularly is a must. It keeps your plumbing system functional and prevents health hazards. It doesn’t matter when last you pumped the system. These signs are the most common indication of a problem with the system. It is best not to ignore them.
